Testimonials

From those served by City Mission:

Janneth came to clean my house today. What an amazing person she is. I am so glad that the Lord sent her to me. I have just had an aortic valve replaced in my heart. Janneth is definitely a Godsend. Thank you for sending her to me.

From those of City Mission who have served others:

This year’s trip to the Dream Center was especially eye-opening to me when we served on the Foster Care Intervention (FCI) team. I was amazed to witness how building furniture and bringing it to homes of parents separated from their children truly helps reunite them. I was impressed how the Dream Center works through the hurdles of state programs to meet the most essential needs of struggling families, to hear how long of a backlog/needs list they have, and how joyous and receptive the families are to the FCI’s services. It was an honor to serve the Dream Center this year!

One of the ministries that we did that really was special to my heart was foster intervention where we were able to help a newly single mom with two young boys escape domestic violence. We built furniture and set up her house with the essentials she needed to be able to keep her boys. This touched me so deeply, to see the different ways that we can openly show the love of God and bring Jesus to people in real ways - seeing God's hands and feet and not just saying it.

What impacted me the most of going to the Dream Center was how everyone from the Dream Center is closely connected with the community of LA. They definitely put in a lot of effort to not only to reach out to the community in a spiritual sense, but with building a friendship first. It was such a beautiful experience to see how people were getting out of their comfort zone to just make a connection and a memory. I definitely plan to do it again the next time I can.

I heard about this from my best friend Aaron and his grandma and I said why not; little did I know that for the week being there it has changed me in subtle ways for the better. I absolutely loved it there. Just seeing the impact that the Dream Center had on the communities all over LA and how much gratitude the people had as well. Thing that stuck out to me was that they didn't focus on Christ and shoving it in their faces, but they built relationships with each and everyone. They laid the ground work … the analogy was brought up a few times there that it's farming - we plow the land and plant the seed in tender hearts, but it's up to them to let the words of faith influence their lives. Absolutely coming back again, had a blast with everyone that came.

In my third mission trip to Dream Center this year, I continued to see amazing accounts of Jesus lifting people out of drug addiction, homelessness, poverty and abuse into fulfilled and productive lives. This is made possible only through the long-term commitments Dream Center makes to individuals, and the trust they develop in the community. A lesson for me was regarding the importance of earning the trust of nonbelievers in my own circles, and to be patient building meaningful relationships with them, before they will be inclined to accept our Gospel witness.
